The Band/Our Music

The Band

The Band was named (in a hurry) after their favourite tune when someone asked what they were called! Since then it has gone from strength to strength and has played for dances and festivals all over the country and in Domont (the French twin town of Shepshed).

Lindsey

Founder member of the band, Lindsey started playing for Folk Dance Clubs whilst at school and The Tenpenny Bit was formed for a dance in the late 1970s. Playing for several morris/sword and dance teams as well, the demand for her music grew and the band became well established.  Currently working at the local school, managing the IT system and small children, the love of music has lead to all sorts of interesting roles - playing the accordian for Y5/6 Folk Dancing sessions, the piano for Christmas Concerts and revisiting the recorder, which all of the school pupils are learning. She also dances with Mortimer's Morris.  If not being musical... she can often be found on the front row of the Leicester Tigers'  terrace with the family - the ones dressed in green, red and white!!

Eddie

Eddie joined the band in 1990. He's guitar obsessed and loves to play for dancing... his custom built Gordon-Smith Graf was made for his 40th birthday, also about 18 years ago. This early photo shows Lindsey and Eddie clearly concentrating, but otherwise not too much seems to have changed! He also plays a Rob Armstrong acoustic guitar as the  Charnwood Clog musician (... to show that he can play the melody on some tunes anyway). He is a founder member of Cool Acoustics, who developed polymer acoustic guitars, and a Pilgrim fan! He'll probably bring along a polymer Pilgrim guitar, but don't ask him about it unless you really want to know the answer! Currently trying to learn Flamenco ...

Katherine

A music graduate of Sheffield University, Katherine started playing in the band at Folk Dance Clubs at the age of 8 before joining the gigging band. She spent many years in the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra , Flute Choir and Senior Strings as well as the school choir, jazz band and small musical ensembles. A member of 'anything musical' and 'lots of folky things' at University brought her into contact with many excellent musicians and different types of music - and also lead to the addition of new instruments to the band's line up. She also finds the time to dance with Pecsaetan MorrisTriskele Sword, Mortimer's Morris and do Taekwondo! Moving on to a PGCE couse at Canterbury will undoubtedly mean new friends, instruments and dance groups, but still the time to play in the band!

Michael

Whilst at school, Michael played with the Leicestershire Arts Symphonic Wind Band and the Leicestershire Schools Big Band 1 and Symphony Orchestra as well as fitting into Brass Bands, Jazz Bands, Concert Bands and Symphony Orchestras in the area when they are short of a percussionist. He joined the band in 2005 and has added an exciting new dimension to the music. When not drumming or playing tuned percussion, he can be found playing for Loughborough Rugby Club.  He will be at University reading History next year but will still find the time to play in the band as well as pursue his studies.
